Getting There
Traveling by car is the only practical way to get there. It is a classic American roadside motel, and since it sits right on South Santiam Highway—the main thoroughfare that runs through Lebanon (U.S. Route 20)—then it becomes incredibly easy to find and convenient as a stop for those traveling between the I-5 corridor and Cascade Mountains. Just pull off the highway, park at your door; this type of property has ample, free-at-your-door-parking-for-motorists included.
For travelers coming by plane, the nearest commercial airport is about a 45-minute drive south at Eugene Airport (EUG). The larger Portland International Airport (PDX) is also another main hub about a 90-minute drive north. It will be necessary to rent a car at either of these airports since there is no direct public shuttle or bus service going to Lebanon. The ride from either airport to the motel is easy and beautiful.
Public transportation heading to Lebanon is very scanty and not a viable option for most travelers. There is no passenger train service heading to the town. Some regional bus services in the Willamette Valley are existent, but since they are not designed for tourist travel, then this would not be a convenient connection to where the motel is located. A personal or rental car is the only recommended mode of transportation for reaching the Shanico Inn.
