Area Guide

The Shanico Inn is in an area of Lebanon that relies very much on cars and doesn’t have much walkability, but it’s adequate for basic needs. The motel sits right on the crowded South Santiam Highway, which isn’t conducive to good walks. Still, within 5-10 minutes of walking along the highway, an A&W, among other fast-food restaurants and a gas station with a store for basics, stands available to guests. That comes in very handy in that one doesn’t have to go far to drive for a quick meal or to stock up on basics.

Just a 5-minute drive from the motel, not far this central business district from the first shop of Lebanon, certainly is a diversified selection of shops and eateries. The central district is a much nicer walking experience; visitors enjoy strolling in the classic American small-town atmosphere and have lots to look at.

All leisure walking will require a car. A few minutes in the car will take you to quite a few pretty city parks like Gills Landing, situated on the picturesque South Santiam River, with nice walking paths and picnic areas. So, the motel should best be seen as a convenient resting place before driving out to the planned destinations rather than as a home base to be explored on foot.
